Recommended general firewall settings with VoIP

Edited

Most modern routers are designed to support VoIP and SIP out of the box; however, if you are experiencing issues with your phone service such as: one-way audio, call drops, or trouble making/receiving calls, check these basic settings:

  • Enable TCP traffic for 5060

  • Enable RTP Traffic for UDP ports 16384 to 32768

If your router supports settings for SIP ALG, QoS, and other VOIP firewall settings, toggle these settings or refer to the manufacture’s guide to determine the best configuration for your network.
